Credit Score Score

Credit score?
Me and my husband are in the process of “looking” into buying a home. We have bad credit. We spoke with a lender today who told us our Credit Scores and said we needed to raise them to above 600 before they can help but they are putting us in touch with someone to counsel us. My questions are:
1. If we pay off items on our credit report how long will it take to reflect on the report and about how many points will it raise the score?
2. I am going back to college this fall, will getting a federal student loan affect the score at all?
*The middle scores for my hubby and me were: 571 and 575 due to 2 credit cards and some utility bills ran up by a family member. I also had a private student loan that charged off because I sick and not working being able to pay it back. I made arrangements and my last payment will be next month. Will that help my score? And if so by approximately how much?
Paying off your delinquent items will Help Your Credit Score, but not by much. The only true way to legally Raise Your Credit score is by paying your bills off on time, over time.
I know this because I too had bad credit (less than a 500)because of a credit card and a delinquent student loan. Almost 7 years later I have rehab (ed) my student loan and the negative credit card has fallen off. and I now have over a 700.
It was a long tough road, but I made it. Any inquiry that is reported, yes even student loans can potentially cause your score to drop, but only if it is conjunction with several inquiries. If it looks like you are going out just trying to get money, the Credit Bureau will lower yourscore because it looks like you are strapped for cash.

A License to Steal $5.55 Walter T. Shaw’s Autobiography – As early as the 1940s, 1950s and 1960s, Walter L. Shaw was thinking of speaker phones, conference calls and call forwarding. Of the thirty-nine patents to his credit, those three telephonic breakthroughs were his biggest inventions, yet nobody knows his name. Ahead of the world by decades, Shaw was leading us into a high-tech future as part of the intellectual elite, but he was repeatedly cheated by shrewd businessmen and big corporations. His son, Walter T. Shaw, was enraged by the ill treatment of his father and embraced a personal mission to even the score. Shaw Jr. would become one of the most prolific jewel thieves in U.S. history. Shaw Sr. spent a lifetime inventing and patenting the many means of communication we take for granted today, but it was all for nothing.Tragically, only the Mafia rewarded him. Just to make ends meet for his family, he was persuaded to put his brilliance to work for the mob. |
